A whole new flavour
The Pioneer series was introduced in 2015 as a sporty, value-packed option. The collection follows three basic tenets. It has to be robust, with a rugged case and 120m of water resistance. It has to be readable in the dark with luminous elements. And last but definitely not least, it has to look stunning. So it’s no coincidence that the Pioneer collection includes such watches as the Cosmic Green and the Mega Cool. And now you’ve got the Concept Citrus Green to add even more flavour.
A burst of citrus
Pioneers are designed for the great outdoors, the classy indoors and everything in between. Life is always exciting with a Pioneer, and that’s why the Concept Citrus Green is a must for the collection. This is one of Moser’s concept pieces, which means not only does it get a completely clean dial with no markers or even logo cluttering up the place, it also features a head turning colour palette.
The gleam on the bright, lemony-lime dial is mesmerising, and there’s absolutely no missing its exquisite display of the purest green. The classic Moser fumé from green to yellow, grained with sunburst like the vesicles of a citrus fruit, is a visual delight. To add to this eye-popping experience, it isn’t just the luminescent paint on the hands that glow, but the entire chapter ring as well. So come nightfall, you can experience the full glowing glory of the hours, minutes and the sweeping centre seconds.
Full of surprises
The watch’s 42.8mm case is simple but ruggedly sporty, with squared off shoulders. Thanks to the shorter lugs, the near 43mm size actually wears smaller than you think. You’ll also notice that there’s more to the case on the flanks, deep recesses filled with a vertical texture, adding to the aesthetic of the silhouette.
Flip the watch around and you’re in for another surprise. The previous calibre HMC 200 has been upgraded to the HMC 201. It comes with a 72 hour power reserve and is opened up, so the insides of the movement can be admired. The golden colour offers a contrast against the grey PVD of the signature double-striped bridges. There’s a glimpse of almost everything in there, from the wheels receiving power from the svelte rotor, to the gear train moving that energy down from the mainspring to the escapement, and even the centre seconds complication — it’s all on show in the HMC 201.
Brace for anything
Even with its 120m water resistance, this wouldn’t be much of an adventurer’s watch if it wasn’t comfortable. And so Moser offers the Citrus Green with two strap options: a bright blue rubber one with a chunky buckle, and a stainless steel bracelet complete with micro-adjust. Press the button on the back of the clasp and it can extend in eight steps to accommodate the swell of a wrist on a warm day. There’s very little that this watch can’t do.
A dollop of everything
With the trend in ‘go anywhere, do anything’ watches taking off as single watch collections become more popular, the Pioneer series makes a very good point with the Centre Seconds Concept Citrus Green. Why accept either sportiness and fun or serious watchmaking when you can simply have both? You’ll get a delicious dollop of everything you could ever want right here. And really, it begs the question: why wear something boring when you could be wearing this instead?
