Minute repeater: sophistication on repeat

To get the audience buzzing, the H. Moser x MB&F Streamliner Pandamonium features a minute repeater complication starring a miniature DJing panda.

Acoustically captivating and visually enticing, this minute repeater captures the very essence of this complication. The complex chime mechanism graces the dial, so you can hear the passage of time while admiring the choreography of the hammers and gongs. The sliding bolt, which activates the minute repeater, is built into the main plate to save space. The case middle has been hollowed out to hold the movement and create a sound box. This amplifies the chiming of hours, quarter hours and minutes.

Discover a musical balance

A large suspended balance wheel, inspired by the MB&F Legacy Machine range, takes centre stage on this timepiece.

It features a double hairspring produced by Precision Engineering AG, the sister company of H. Moser & Cie. Thanks to these perfectly matched hairsprings, the movement of the point of gravity on each spring when it expands is corrected, significantly improving accuracy and isochronism. Hypnotic in its movements, the balance wheel posed an additional challenge as the gongs had to be bent in two places to allow them to pass over the balance wheel bridge.

Hitting the right notes

Occupying three dimensions, the shaped gongs feature a flat coil and an upper coil, positioned one on top of the other.

The two gongs have two hammers falling onto them. The geometry of the case has been meticulously designed, developed and adapted. It maximises the properties of steel and enhances its impact, while also allowing the walls to form part of the resonance. Steel deforms very little under stress and retains the vibratory energy from sound well. All of this comes together to create a beautiful sound that combines amplitude, a certain length and a pure note.

The return of the panda

The star of this timepiece is the little DJ panda, made from white gold and sculpted and decorated entirely by hand.

The creature that has become the signature of the MB&F world. Placed alongside the hammers, the panda seems to be mixing the soundtrack to the meeting between H. Moser &Cie. and MB&F. Its turntables are fitted on the axis of the hammers and are driven by the rotation of the mechanism as it operates. The panda is only 5.35 mm tall. But it took countless hours to create, from design and development to modelling and manufacturing. This was followed by time at the hands of the engraver and then the jeweller for the final polishing. (Let’s not forget the meticulous paint job!)
